LINCOLN TOMB
In the heart of our country, on the edge of the city he called home, is the final resting place of President Abraham Lincoln, his wife, and three of their children. Built with donations from across America, the Lincoln Tomb honors the memory of our nation's greatest president and those who struggled with him toward a new birth of freedom.
We invite you to join us in honoring and remembering the Lincoln family with a tour of the interior space of the Lincoln Tomb. There is no charge for the tour, but donations to support the historic site are appreciated.

Current Policies

The Lincoln Tomb has several small interior spaces.

Guests are encouraged to use hand sanitizer stations provided. Guests will not be permitted to touch any statues (or protective rails surrounding statues) or other artifacts in the building, regardless of sanitizer use.

The Lincoln Tomb tour is fully accessible to those using wheelchairs or other mobility devices. The observation deck on top of the tomb is not open to the public at this time.

Pets are not allowed inside the Lincoln Tomb. Service animals are welcome. Please note we do not have pet boarding facilities and pets may not be left outdoors unsupervised. Pets on the grounds must be leashed or in a carrier and under the control of a handler at all times.
Parking
A free parking lot for the Lincoln Tomb is located adjacent to the tomb, just to the west of the custodian's residence. Parking spaces for RV's and other large vehicles is available.
Photography Policy
Photography, video and other recording using handheld equipment are permitted throughout the site, both indoors and out. Drone photography/video is NOT permitted.
Season Programs
Lincoln Tomb Porch Walks: May 31st - November 9th
The Lincoln Tomb was formally dedicated on October 15, 1874, 150-years ago. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will present “Porch Talks” on the grounds of the Residence at the Lincoln Tomb providing 20-30 minute programs about lesser-known facts surrounding the monument. Lincoln Tomb Flag Ceremony: June 4th - August 27th
Each Tuesday evening in June, July, and August, join us at the Lincoln Tomb for a Flag Ceremony presented by the Civil War reenactors of the 114th Illinois Volunteer Infantry (Reactivated). 2024 marks the 150th anniversary of the dedication of the Lincoln Tomb, so we have some extra special experiences for this year. Arrive at 5:45 to meet General Ulysses S. Grant and hear some Civil War-era music performed by a live band. Check in with the volunteers of the Soldier's Aid Society for entry into the drawing to receive the flag that has flown over the Lincoln Tomb the previous week. At 7:00, reenactors will perform drills in front of the Tomb to honor the memory of President Lincoln, then lower the flag flying over the Lincoln Tomb and present it to someone in the audience to take home.
The program is free and open to the public; bringing lawn chairs or blankets is recommended. Those sensitive to loud noises should note that the ceremony does include firing of rifles and possibly a small mortar.
